Peacock Junior High School in Itasca led Illinois students again in the annual spring Stock Market Game, an exercise in investing hypothetical money. For the 13th time in 14 years, pupils of social studies teacher Daniel Peel have placed first, second or third among Illinois junior high and middle schools in the contest.
These three students defeated more than 15, students across Illinois to win. Peel teaches a finance unit in his social studies class, culminating in playing the Stock Market Game. The girls made their investment decision after studying a list of stock candidates brought to class by Jack Mensching, a vice president of Itasca Bank and Trust Co.

He visits the Peacock pupils each year to discuss financial strategies. Jenna, Hannah and Jaclyn chose WMS, a Chicago pinball manufacturer.
Another of the 22 Peacock teams in the Stock Market Game finished third in the junior high school division. The Peacock kids will be among Illinois students with top investment records who will be honored May 19 at a luncheon at Northern Illinois University in DeKalb.

Among their prizes will be T-shirts that say on the front, "I played the market," and on the back, "and won my shirt. The Stock Market Game is sponsored by the Chicago Stock Exchange, Security Traders Association of Chicago, Illinois Council on Economic Education and Illinois Securities Department.
